domestic flights: Unique ID to enable paperless boarding for domestic flyers - Times of India

A unique identity number will soon let you whisk past airport processes while boarding domestic flights. A technical team representing Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the four private metro airports has finalised the format for biometric-based “digi-yatra” (DY) for all airports to enable a completely paperless boarding process for domestic flyers.
Under this, each traveller will need to get the unique ID from an aviation ministry portal which will be linked to their biometrics. People will give this unique DY ID at time of booking domestic tickets.
Only those who want a paperless boarding experience will need to get this unique ID as the existing procedure will continue to remain in place. The aviation ministry had in September 2016 created the Airsewa portal for grievance redressal.

The Privacy Cost Of Digi Yatra’s Seamless Travel Promise | HuffPost India

On July 1, 2019, Hyderabad’s international airport launched a pilot project, Digi Yatra, that uses facial recognition for passenger check-in, security and boarding. This industry-led project falls under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA), and seeks to facilitate efficient, speedy and secure travel. Face scans through the airport at various check-points will allow passengers to avoid cumbersome security checks and lengthy queues.

While this sounds like a desirable travel experience, we believe that Digi Yatra’s promise of seamless travel comes at too high a cost. Some of our concerns, both technical and legal, are as follows.

I have used Digiyatra at Kolkata, Guwahati & Delhi.
Kolkata & Guwahati was smooth experience. However, at Delhi T3, they put a human security person who controlled the flow of digiyatra passengers and forced them to stand in a queue and allowed only a few persons at a time, making it slower than the regular line. That defeated the entire purpose of digiytatra, Don't know who authorized such action of the security team.

Worries about privacy, surveillance, & unfair exclusions have been raised about Digi Yatra, India’s airport facial recognition system. They are amplified by disturbing reports of airport staff coercing & deceiving passengers to sign on. This raises serious questions about Digi Yatra’s true purpose.

Multiple users registered their complaints about the abrupt switch to the new app and also asked for reasons why the old app wasn’t updated
