arey bhai. already invested a lot in this apcups model. i had rather invest in something that i can connect in between the power supply and the UPS that can convert the power type if such a device is available

and not interested in buying an inverter. takes too much space and makes too much noise. and i believe is very polluting

Hehe. If you have apc ups, its obvious that you invested a lot on a ups. Btw, for how much did you get this ups for?
And yes, inverters are indeed polluting if you use normal maintenance batteries. To avoid it you may use maintenance free bakeries.
anyways. i could not find a solution for the problem. the power supply is the root cause. it happens randomly. but things have been rather good lately. very few instances when the UPS failed to charge on the backup power.
i decided to get the battery pack for the APC UPS today. cost me 4800. and i now have a total backup of around 60 minutes. largely because of the humongous 27" display (which has its own set of problems!).
a brand new problem... i had a pretty terrible power supply problem last night. and the battery was totally discharged. it is not charging well now. i kept it on mains with nothing connected to it. it charged to 20% in around four hours. and i finally started using it... and now i am actually noticing that the battery is getting discharged on MAINS! in around an hour of usage, it has gone down from 20% to 16%.
Check the mains voltage... if its not in a decent range, charging may not take place..Also, deep discharge to 0% can damage batteries , unlikely if it was the 1st time, but could have happened..
it was the first time it had completely run out of gas
voltage is fine right now. i know by the speed of the fan. it was awful last night. should have turned off the UPS. made a mistake. i had some important work to day and was desperate. but the supply was so bad that it simply did not happen.
ordering a custom made UPS tomorrow morning. because this unit is simply not capable of surviving the power cuts in Gurgaon. i do hope that it has not gone bad. i do not have the bills even though it is still under warranty (APC site states that warranty is for two years).
have sent a query to APC support. would update when i get a response back.
Custom made UPS??Shifted from Gurgaon to NOIDA.. really appreciate the power supply in Gurgaon now..Its always in the 260-270V range here, so virtually everything needs stabilizers
