My query stems more from a theoretic point of view. Wouldnt resolution done locally (by MTNL) be faster than done by some servers sitting in the US (assuming here) of OpenDNS?

@kneo Since you are more interested in theory 1.You can check the path taken by MTNL DNS and Open DNS 2. or check the time taken in either setting . to access a web site. local or foreign.

^^
Im using this DNS from last 1 yr or more dun remember

BUT on few sites i get 404 sometimes but frm anonymouse.org they open~~!!

^ Thats not a DNS issue, it means ur MTNL IP address has been banned by that site

I had tried 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 as my DNS servers for sometime. But i noticed something interesting. If i leave the pc idle, connected to net, i find approximately 5 MB to data transfer for every hour. Why is that so? When i revert back to TreeWalk, no such data transfer.

must be something on ur PC..i dont register any extra data usage with level 3

But why does this transfer occur only when i input these DNS servers ? The moment i enter other DNS servers, everything works fine.

thats strange..if u are really worried abt it..use wireshark to determine the source of traffic
