Do you still have to log in using username and password before using the internet?

I had alliance a couple of years ago and one of the most annoying thing about it was you had to log in using your username and password before you could start using the internet.

I have never seen anything like it in any of the other isp i have used. Internet should be plug and play.
Does alliance still does this? Is there anyway to turn it off?

Yes. It's still that way. You may email abspl@alliancebroadband.co.in mentioning your client ID and phone number to turn autologin on.

Yes, you still have to enter user name and password to use internet. But simply calling customer care or emailing them with your client id and requesting them to turn on auto login solves it.
