I am planning to upgrade from wired router(MT882, provided by MTNL) to wireless router. There is no wireless lan card in my pc. Does wireless router require wireless lan card? If yes, MTNL will provide it or will I need to buy my own?and how can I request MTNL to upgrade router? Do i need to go to sanchaar haat or i can request on 1504?

no..u can connect same cable that u r using right now to the wireless router thru ur existing lan card

But if I want to connect it without cable then I need wireless lan card?

U don't have to add wireless card to router. U either have a modem like the current one allowing connection thru wire or u have a WiFi modem cum router which allows connection thru wire & wireless. What is the reason for shifting to WiFi. R u going to use a laptop? WiFi is useful if your computer is a distance from the computer. Since u were connected previously thru the LAN wire, I suppose the distance between computer & modem is v short. If you still want to go WiFi with your desktop then you can add a WiFi card to your PCI slot in your desktop. But decide before hand if you want to hire it from MTNL & pay a monthly rent or buy it in the market. Also of paramount importance is check if your OS in your machine supports WPA2 PSK security which is currently theh latest & best WiFi security available.

You have to buy/install the Wireless Lancard in your desktop computer.Usually inserted in a PCI slot. ( cost around Rs 900 to 1000/=)MTNL supplies the wifi router which is similar to the base station of a cordless phone.Your PC or laptop needs the plug in to transmit/receive with the router. WIFI router usually for use with laptop computers. ( move about in the house, battery backup etc ) Supplied usually with Wireless LAN card ( left side/right side of laptop)You have to return the MT882( if on rent ) and get a modem/wifi router.Do you expect MTNL to send somebody to collect it and deliver the WIFI router ? !!!!(whether on rent or outright purchase )

If you want wireless on your Desktop then opt for any supporting wifi adaptors either PCI or USB.
