Dropbox Updates

A revolutionary new way to access all your files

Project Infinite will enable users to seamlessly and securely access all their Dropbox files from the desktop, regardless of how much space they have available on their hard drives. Everything in the company’s Dropbox that you’re given access to, whether it’s stored locally or in the cloud, will show up in Dropbox on your desktop. If it’s synced locally, you’ll see the familiar green checkmark, while everything else will have a new cloud icon.

Visibility in context. Every file you’ve been given access to—even ones that aren’t stored locally—will appear in Windows File Explorer and Mac OS X Finder. You can quickly drill down through folders to find what you need, without the lag of a network drive or the inconvenience of a web app. Plus, you can view key info like file size, and creation and modification dates through your desktop file system, no downloading required.
Real-time access. Files and folders stored in the cloud can be organized with familiar drag-and-drop simplicity, right from the desktop. And when you need to open something from the cloud, just double-click it like any other file. Dropbox will automatically sync and open the file for you.
Universal compatibility. For IT teams, Project Infinite works the way your teams work, supporting cross-platform access and backwards-compatibility on any computer running Windows 7 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.9 and up. IT teams can bring the power of Project Infinite to the systems they manage and you can share and collaborate with ease.

I recieved an email today with an update and it has killed Dropbox for me.

Camera uploads is changing on July 22

Camera uploads is a feature on your Dropbox mobile app that automatically backs up photos and videos from your phone or tablet. We’re changing the way this feature works in your Basic account. On July 22, camera uploads will turn off, unless you do one of two things to keep it on:

  • Connect a computer: Download and install the Dropbox desktop app to better manage your camera uploads. Easily access, organize, or remove photos you don’t want in your Dropbox Basic account.

    • Upgrade to Dropbox Pro: Keep all your photos in one place with 1 TB (1,000 GB) of space. Using the button below, you’ll get 30% off one year of Dropbox Pro through July 22, 2016.

I know, but I have already setup everything on different machines (phones, tabs etc) with Dropbox such that we can share pictures among family members easily and a working system was a barrier for the movement but now I guess I have to take the plunge.

Shared Albums on Google Photos has a 2000 photo limit which kind of breaks it for me. Other than that it's pretty cool. People get alerts when new photos are added to albums. They can add photos to the same albums and so on. It's actually quite close to being perfect. And the object recognition technology is fantastic.

I understand that and I currently upload my photos to both Dropbox and google drive but have you ever tried teaching new things to previous generation or a generation before?

I was just speaking generally. I cannot use it because of that little issue. So I just dump my photos to Google Drive too where no one gets to see them. And it would die with me.
