DTH operator agrees to air more Marathi channels

Political opponents Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have found a common cause. Both parties have trained their guns on Direct-to-Home Service operator Tata Sky for its alleged bias in beaming Marathi channels.
Presently, the private operator shows DD Marathi, ETV Marathi and Zee Marathi channels, while new channels like Star Maaza, Zee 24 hours, Zee Talkies and Mee Marathi are not. A group of Sena activists from the party’s consumer protection group led by advocate Arun Jagtap met officials of the operator recently. “All Marathi channels must be aired immediately. Disallowing the telecast of Marathi channels is like controlling the language itself,” said Jagtap.
If all Marathi TV channels are not shown immediately, Sena activists have threatened to shut down all DTH companies for their alleged bias. “We want the state government to create a law under which it becomes mandatory for all DTH operators to show local Marathi TV channels irrespective of the bouquets they have,” said Jagtap.
The MNS’s Cine Workers Association also met the DTH operator to protest against what they called a “regional” bias. “We have given them a deadline of September 30 to start telecasting all Marathi Channels.
If they fail to do it, we will hold a massive morcha against the DTH operator,” said Ameya Khopkar, the association’s working president. A Tata Sky source told DNA, “We have been carrying Marathi channels from the launch of our service. We are looking to add more channels to the line-up over the next few months.”

That apart, Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena should show their support for the Marathi channels cause by posting on relevant threads on this forum instead of bashing people up. We have already thought about this issue before these people came in with their sticks and empty skulls. Damn these politicians!

DNA has wrongly mentioned that TS does not air Mi Marathi. The channel is available for the past week or so.

Another thing. DNA is part-owned by Zee. They have not mentioned this while they are reporting on one of their competitors.

This is ridiculos, there shud not be any political interference, this not a state run free service, every DTH service has its own policy, what shiv sena doing is wrong, same this south too, DMK supported cable operators are against Sun DTH, these political parties arer acting like goonda's. These people can not baah up people and make them act aaccording to their wishes.

This are shitty regional channels for you but not for all I really surprise why didnt u cry when 15 SUN launched on TS(those are alos shitty regional channels for u). As all south indians have right to see thier language channels so is marathis
I am also against shiv sena style of doing things however if we are getting chanels which all marathis are asking thru this way than no problems at all

Hey Panks, Iam also for getting marathi channels on TS, but not by force or causing harm to the people and material. There are many other ways to aproach TS. not by voilence, These SS r not doing good. We can put pressure on TS, by using forums like these, writing mails, calling them etc. but not voilence and threateningyes Gregory, u r right,

Political parties are neither economically literate nor tech-savvy. If TS does not broadcast Marathi channels, SS and MNS will start breaking dishes on terraces. Who is going to benefit from that? Certainly not the viewer.And every day these people enforce a 'voluntary' strike in Bombay or Pune, crores of rupees of irreversible economic damage is done. Maharashtra was one of the most progressive states in the country. The last 10 years has seen so much of bad politicking and disastrous economic decision-making that as of now we are nearly bankrupt.
