Luxury cars need lavish interiors and what's more luxurious than watching live TV in such a car.
With several luxury car launches at Auto Expo this year, DishTV launched Personal Live TV on Move. The service brings 70 satellite TV channels to a screen in a vehicle. The channels are independent of each other and have personal audio.
The technology is similar to that on Kingfisher Airlines. However, for cars the cost is considerably lower. The service is still expensive, with a single TV system set to cost Rs 1.9 lakh. Annual subscription for the service is Rs 10,000.
The service is targeted at larger vehicles and a four-seat system in a Toyota Innova would cost close to Rs 2.45 lakh, including installation and the annual subscription.
Wondering how the system works? A special mobile dish antenna would be installed on the roof of the car to provide the live TV feed to LCD screens inside the car. The cost of the system would also depend on the size of the screens in the car.
Mr Salil Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer, DishTV, said, “Earlier, DishTV was providing a single TV system where with one mobile dish antenna only one screen could be run. However we made some enhancements in the mobile set-top-box and the mobile dish antenna to bring multiple personal TV facility to Indian roads.”
