this was not a case of sabotage. a bus actually took a wrong turn around my house and actually hit a pole besides this cable while trying to get out. sabotage would have been a completely different issue. i did not really see any issue paying for something that was not LCO's own fault as well. I had originally asked him to install the cable through the first floor balcony which meant that the cable was indeed hanging pretty low over the road. But then the roads are not wide enough for buses to pass through so there had been no issue since I got the connection many months ago.

i got lucky that it did not damage the electricity meter on that same pole. a jcb damaged our meter while trying to demolish an illegally erected gate last year. had to pay for replacement of the meter from our own pocket even back then.

but you do pay service tax and other blah blah taxes everymonth? even in my village, whenever my dads bsnl connection wires get snapped, bsnl guys themselves come after few days and repair the wire themselves without any cost (still give them 100rs as chai kharcha)
even when my ACT wire got cut due to rains one time, they themselves came and replaced it free of cost.

unless you specifically made them install a new wiring , say , due to shifting of home, then they are right to charge amount for new wiring

tbh. service tax goes to government. my local lco is not charging anything extra over what excitel advertises. so whatever he makes from me is what excitel pays him per customer. someone has to pay for the cable. from my point of view... cable damage was not his fault. it would not have damaged if i had originally got them to install it through the railing on the second floor instead of first. i just wanted him to install the cable as per my requirement and paying seemed like a good option to get it done properly. the guy arrived promptly and i had a downtime of less than two hours. service support has been pretty awesome with excitel in my locality. they have provided support past 9pm at times. and i am just paying 820 bucks per month for a 50mbps unlimited plan. lol. i prefer not to take this thing too seriously now :)

Similar things happened with our connection way back before I had airtel, I used to have service from You Telecom or as they were known back then, Iqara. We had the local police station at the other end of the street and we were the corner house on one end. They used to regularly confiscate trucks and drive them to the station. It happened a few times, the wire used to break. Finally the decided to move it as high up as they could on the pole, problem solved. They never once charged us for the repair/replacement, according to them as it wasn't inside my premises, it was their responsibility for maintaining/fixing it.
