of course Wubi is not practical to run Linux as the primary OS. i prefer it because it is easy to get working. :P and you can be sure that a regular install would work fine after a real install. once that is confirmed i can set up a proper install. i am yet to find the version of ubuntu that works great out of the box on my Dell machine.

Hey which Dell machine do you have!?I have absolutely no issues with Ubuntu 8.10 (and also Fedora 10) on my Vostro 1400. On my new laptop, the Studio XPS 13, I have F10 with just alsa-driver and Nvidia 9400 giving problems out of the box as the hardware was released after F10 which shipped alsa-driver-1.0.17. I compiled alsa-driver-1.0.19 and now sound is good and Nvidia of course works with the binary driver from Nvidia.

GNOME and KDE are like MySQL and PostgreSQL.

If you like simplicity but less features, less flexibility then its GNOME
If you like more features and more flexibility but with bit complexity then its KDE
Gnome inherently got as many features as kde programs got baba!:ashamed:
they got a xml registry(like windows got kind of..) where they curtail the features to a certain extent.

not true...but dont take my word for it...hear from the chief himself...
Linus versus GNOME

kde3.5 has lots more features than gnome...kde4 is still in devhell so no comments for that

yeah, but some of it is still broken and some features are still missing and yet to be implemented...it starting to look good though...

i m using kde 4.2.3...well...not actually using...i have it installed...i use fluxboxedit: i m dling 4.3beta as we speak...
