Fedora desktop icons not auto arranging

Hi,I use Fedora Linux and my problem is with the desktop icons. I have them arranged by type in a vertical manner on the desktop and as it happens in Windows when one drags one icon from this vertical arrangement to the other side of the desktop, the icon immediate below to the one being dragged automatically should go up and take its place. But it does not happen on my Fedora desktop. There remains an empty space. Can any one please help me? Thanks
