Actually you are Participating so I borrowed that line for time being. :D

Thanks to this thread. Entertained through half of my commute. Quick thoughts1. Which singer was responsible for rapes before 2006 or whenever honey Singh started singing? 2. Why is Eminem still allowed to sing when all he advocates is rebellion violence and what not? 3. Was there a statistical reduction in crime rates during the days when they used to air Ramayana? 4. For every honey Singh number we have 5 new religious channels and serials (jai hanuman and what not) on air. Should not we actually be moving towards a more religious, conservative atmosphere, going by the logic that TV and Internet influence people? The fact is not everyone wants to watch a religious channel. So if you can't force anyone to watch a clean, godly, religious channel, you surely can't force a vulgar, offensive and immoral song upon someone. Boils down to individual choice. 5. I grew up listening to songs like cholee ke peeche, sarkaai leyo Khatiya and saiyan ke saath rajaiya me. Maybe danced to them at times. Of course they don't advocate rape, but they were as vulgar as anything I have seen. But I am yet to molest / rape anyone. Maybe I am an exception but I don't think any of my friends have done that either. And I am very sure the 5-6 men on that bus on that fateful night, had no access to a computer leave alone Internet, YouTube and honey singh. So where was the seed of such things sown in their minds? Western countries have hundreds of honey singhs and gangster rap and lots of such stuff. Are there more rapes there? We don't know, because there is no official data from India about the number of rapes and gross under reporting so we can't compare. My point being, those who want to rape will rape. In retrospect you can blame songs, films, chowmein or a lamppost.

It is unfortunate that these two things are being related, especially the timing of the Delhi incident & the subsequent filing of this FIR for that song. Such songs according to me are indecent and need to be banned irrespective of the rape incident. Its in bad taste & against the limitations that are already present in our constitution under freedom of expression. Those in favour of it, if they are keen, can go and work towards having that constitution amended first. I personally feel this does come under that restriction, and its a valid restriction. May as well remove that line of restriction from freedom of expression if you are going to allow these kind of stuff.

Free speech laws are too vague, at least in our country. Who is to decide what's moral/decent and what's not?I guess some people are listening and enjoying to that kind of music. I remember listening ch*t back when i was in school along with sutta and GMD. I listened to it many times back then, it was novel and provocative. Some of the lyrics were funny. I watched this movie called g*ndu recently, it can be considered obscene but i found it to be very good, better than most bollywood movies these days.I actually TV serials/commercials/dance numbers far more obscene. In fact dance numbers objectify women more than these songs of teenage angst.I think we as viewers/critics have a choice to listen or not. Don't like it don't indulge in it. But i guess that's too much to ask in a country where people like M. F Hussain have to stand trial or flee.I just found the song, it's balaatkari which actually glorifies rape, literally. But it is still fun song in a very immature way, and i find the artists (Bodhi Tree) creative. I guess it's the kind of humour not everyone can digest.

That is a very good point. Who is to decide which is decent. Fair enough. Thats why I added according to me above. But thinking/speaking logically at a higher level. There are two things, are people in favour saying its decent or are they saying its indecent, but I am an adult & I should have the right to choose etc.. I strongly believe its later. Now the definition of decent itself you may argue can change, but the basic norm would be that is is something that you would be proud of doing/singing whatever in front of your family, relatives, public. If not, you too agree its indecent, but you want the right to choose. Nobody can stop you from locking yourself in your own room & sing abusive words with the sorry excuse of calling it a song. But allowing it to be sold/distributed & played in public is definitely not acceptable and what would be defined in common sense as being indecent and very much against the law here

drugs should be legalized yes. because they are not as harmful as things that are legally sold in india. ciggies? alcohol? what is wrong with weed? legalize it. tax it.

i can buy poison legally from the market but not some harmless weed. i do not see people poisoning themselves.

Not exactly harmless, but I'm with you here.
But the problem arises because drugs is a vague term and coccaine, MDMA and what not are drugs too, which might be more harmful.

What if that's the only way he can earn a living? Like prostitution. It can be considered indecent. For some it's their only means to a living. Similarly, maybe this is the talent Honey Singh has. To convert his teenage angst or emotions into lyrics? Many of us have wild emotions, fantasies, what if this is a better way to let them out? A creative output for somethings that could be destructive. And maybe a outlet for other teenagers to sing/hear it and cope with sexual confusion that comes at that age?

Now, I would repeat the 2nd point I said. "Those in favour of it, if they are keen, can go and work towards having that constitution amended first."
