First thing that comes to my mind is the courier company.
flipkart have branched out channels in bulk in logistics. They have a totally special storage and even the delivery guys in big cities are dedicated to them.So that is not possible.
the report looks exaggerated.

flipkart is already operating from their own setup offices in large number of cities and salaried delivery guys, instead of Courier company, so If the city was ekart (flipkart logistics) the culprit would not be far from getting caught.
however such things is certainly sad and shocking for a country like India where eCommerce still needs a boost.
Offtopic: and thanks for posting that harryjerry link, reminds me of him from old days.

Although it might sound bit stupid, but i have started to take a video of any such package unpacking / unboxing that i receive from any website. Because i will have to anyways sign the courier when receiving and without that, i won't be allowed to open the package.
So while unpacking i take a video to prove my point, just in case the package has a defective product or something which i did not order.
Once everything is fine, i delete the video.

Incidents like these are stopping ecomm industry to reach its full potential. We have consumer laws but they are not being executed well and hence the customer has no assurance or backup

Just in case you do not know the reality of online journalism today. They did not cover the story because it was a big deal. They covered the story because you cover anything and everything today. NDTV and even Dainik Bhaskar cover almost all the stories that you would see breaking on Engadget and The Verge.

I know that.
Even sometimes I find the articles online published in news paper and journalists don't even change the writing. Simple copy paste.
Same news is repeated in different news papers with different day but same writing. They don't even give credit to that particular website or blog.
