PROBLEM INFO AVAILABLE Modem Utstar 300R2U
after OS login, I'm getting the security notification balloon after 5 minutes.....

Firefox loads in 3 seconds.
have to wait 5 minutes to surf
modem suspect ? checked Ok in bsnl office
I do not have any startup applications (except AVAST AV,HD Audio, WordWeb) nothings shows in my taskbar.
Click an empty space near task bar. properties
Hide inactive icons Uncheck.
within 20 seconds of power on your system is ready with all applications/drivers loaded and , next 3 seconds your FF is ready.
Modem also tested elsewhere and working normal.
Another "bermuda triangle " problem !

Perform Disk cleanup/Defragmentation C:/drive.
In ccleaner another option to delete all old System Restore Points. Delete as many as you can.
( latest cannot be deleted)
Download Anvir taSK MANAGER free and check start up items , and disable all except MS. application:
( or check in msconfig )

Feedback:
Try again. Open OE or Outlook email client.
give time required to access email/s.
and the applications which appear in TaskBar now,

Thank you friend for explaining.

Hope you might have noticed I'm used-to guy with Windows XP/PC.
I never hide my icons of system tray or group similar windows on taskbar.
Its my default setting after my XP installation ;)
Also I regularly (after 15days) perform disk cleanup/defragmentation.
So, what I was saying, I keep my PC always uptodate (atleast what I think).

But for this typical problem I'm pulling my hair :(
I even thought there may be issue with my onboard NIC, so tried with my spare PCI NIC, still same problem.
What I ve tried, I kept the modem ONLY in power ON mode first unplugging the power cable from UPS to PC.
Then after 5 minutes I power ON my PC and surprisingly it connects immediately.

So, I guess that router/modem /power adapter are the culprits.
But to proof that I need to connect it at my friends house (luckily one lives in my society) ;)

I'll again update after my test.

Friends,
As I have already said, I'm experiencing dis-connection and now its proved by seeing it on my Ubuntu partition. But WindowsXP the connection seems alive but internally it reconnects after every dis-connection. What could be the problem ? I'm giving the ping pattern and pppoe log from my Ubuntu OS.

It sounds like a hardware issue, be it line or router.

Here's my clue:

May 17 21:34:16 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: No response to 4 echo-requests
May 17 21:34:16 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: Serial link appears to be disconnected.
May 17 21:34:16 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: Connect time 4.5 minutes.
May 17 21:34:16 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: Sent 99137 bytes, received 390269 bytes.
May 17 21:34:22 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: Connection terminated.
May 17 21:34:22 utkal-homepc pppd[1587]: Modem hangup

It appears that you're not, but if you're connecting via USB, it could also be that - I've seen USB ports go bad at both ends on a couple of brands of motherboards.

If you can find another DSL router (borrow from a friend or something), see if it does the same thing. If not, it's probably the router.

If so, it's probably the line and at least you can start narrowing down the causes.

It could also be moisture on the line causing a short-circuit of sorts; or some physical problem with the copper. I remember fighting over a similar issue with Telecom NZ about 7 years ago.
