If the City VTEC is in your budget then I would suggest you also test the Optra Magnum diesel, the base model is about the same price as the VTEC, same size as the Civic and a diesel engine. What the base model does lack is ABS and Airbags and a few goodies, but the best goodie is under the hood. It is way better than all the smaller cars in terms of both performance and high speed stability, the handling isn't electric though because of the heavy diesel up front. Chevrolet also has a 3 year cashless ownership offer going on till the 31st of this month

^^ i second him but i can say the spares are expensive. i own city, so i know how expensive spares are compared to maruti & even hyundai

now that my brother is back from mumbai and is all set to get married, he needs a bigger car too. me and dad suggested him to go for a city or the verna diesel... both are rather on the higher end. let's see which one he gets :whistle:i would personally get a swift diesel as i am not very comfortable driving a car with a boot... city is excellent. verna diesel is great for a diesel car. :P

The City iDSI is a great car, not that powerful but gives great FE. It is also a whole lot cheaper than the Verna diesel.

great. they are now stuck between fiesta diesel and verna diesel. price gap is around 30-40K... from what i read online, fiesta has better average, verna has more power. fiesta looks better, verna has more space inside.

Don't forget to include the cost of ford's spares that will eventually at some point come into play...

that is what going on in my mind. i have seen friend's ford ikon rusting just after 2-3 years of rains. agreed that ikon is not comparable to fiesta which is a more recent model... ford really does not invoke trust in my mind... brother won't say anything  dad does not like the look of verna (agreed)... but reading the team-bhp forum... verna is more powerful and great on highways... fiesta is more suitable for city driving... i have driven the fiesta diesel... i liked it. of course i would like it after driving my petrol swift... :Pi guess i would check out verna diesel tommorow and let dad decide. i do not want to be the bad guy here. :D

The verna's power does indeed come into its own on the highway, that is where the fiesta diesel falls flat on its face, no power! you also have the city driving bit correct, but the verna isn't a bad city car either, the reason why I mentioned spares was not rust but the city angle and the bumps and nicks one will eventually end up with, that is where spares can come into play.
