Galaxy R Internal storage error

Hii got this strange problem.I was browsing the net on phoneSuddenly my phone staarted giving this internal storage low problem.I was pretty sure that the device memory was 1gb plus.suddwnly it started showing that the available storage is 5kb.Deleted a few apps and now storage is 75mb.The error is still there.but there are only 8-9 apps stored on phone and cpuldnt have taken up almost 1.9 gb.Is it some kind of virus issue?i cant even install an antivirus now.What to do?please help.....I am running Gingerbread BTW.

Check DCIM folder. Under that you will find thumbnail folder. There might be a file in GBs. Try if it works. Delete that file.

If you're rooted check the size of /data/tombstones. If its huge, you can delete the tombstone files in that folder that should probably release some free space. Larger sized tombstone folder denotes that an app is frequently crashing.

i am not rooted.This happend all of a sudden today.btwThrough the My Files app i can access SD card and External SD card.files but cant see files on my phone.Phone memory was around 1gb and i am pretty sure i didnot install.anything as such.

Well you can't do anything about it other than factory reset.I am able to install other apps but not any antivirus.
Did you sideload apps (cracked apps to be specific) ?

How to do factory reset and will it delete mys msgs and contacts?how to transfer them to Ext SD.

Used super back up and Sms back up.Factory reset done.Phone is up and running as before.Thanks evryone.
