hi folks, does any one have a Idea of numbers starting with "000".. for example, numbers like 000117, 000800 etc. When we may a call we are not charged for anything, even an hour of call is free. So who actually pays for the call ??. In india if you need a toll free we goto BSNL, and the person who takes the line from BSNL pays for it and to consumers its not charged. How does it work on internationl.. Who owns it?.. Who pays for it... Because a call from India to US for even an hour, its free.. Can anyone help me on this. Thanks.

dont create useless threads in this forum and dont ask same questions in every forum. :frown: go to appropriate forum and post there

@/members/skviswa/Toll free numbers mean the caller is not charged .The company or organisation pays bulk amount to to the telephone company, at a concessional rate. Sometimes the number called , say for an American company, will be routed to call center in India and you will get a response from India. Hope you can relax now, as you need not pay !

R u pple sure calling to toll free numbers abroad from a Mtnl/bsnl connection is absolutely free?

yeah. it is limited to India atleast ! In US, it may goto Cananda aswell i guess.. otherwise 1800-xxx-xxxx is there in India and USA. so where should it go !If you add any number before 1800-xxx-xxx, it wont be toll free !Customer care persons may be sitting anywhere.. like Yahoo DSL , HP USA, Dell USA calls are coming down to Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and other places in India !

heh of course but these numbers are not usable in india from what i know... indian customer care numbers are unlikely to be accessible from US.

Worldwide toll-free access numbers.
To make a call from abroad, you need to find out the worldwide toll-free access number for the country you are calling from. When you call, you need to:
1. Dial the worldwide access number of the country you are calling from.
2. Enter your calling card number and PIN
3. Enter 011 + country code + city code + local number
Note: the initial "0" (zero) is not normally a required part of the city code when dialing from one country to another.
