Google Services: Gmail, YouTube and Google Search

Tried it on Chrome. Doesn't really serve my purpose even then. I was expecting the actual count, but it shows a distant approximation in my case. I had 1329 unread in my Inbox, and it shows just 100+. Definitely not worthwhile
 
it shows an actual count if you have few messages. anyhow i do not believe it has space to show more than 99 in the favicon.

for 35 unread mails it is showing me 30. which is sort of sad i believe. i am not sure if they have created different favicons for all the digits. maybe they have created individual ones till 20 and then rest for 30,40,50,60,70,80,90? :D
 
Title bar OR tab title anyway shows the number, so favicon trick wud not be much necessary. it wud be just an amusement.
 
^ Not really. As it stands today, the title bar first contains the folder/label name, and then the unread count. This makes the unread count visible only when the tab width is wide enough. Not during multi tab browsing sessions.
