Yes but instead of writing some relatively big code, they cud have simply changed the title bar text ..i.e. instead of Inbox (10) they cud have changed it to (10) Inbox
Plus downloading favicon everytime a new mail comes means few bytes additional bytes downloaded.

I too use Gmail as my primary email account. I don't use my older email IDs like Yahoo and Hotmail. Just for safer side I have used the 'Check mail using POP3' feature in Gmail. It automatically fetches new mail from my older IDs frequently. So there is no need to check the older email IDs for any missed out emails
thats what i said. i thought it might be a chrome dev channel issue. but same response in firefox so it is not really working. i can probably submit a request through google moderator or their other channels. but it is of no use in the end.
That's right. I did that long back in the same hope that the title bar would show the number. But not of much help, however, definitely better than not seeing the number at any time.
