GPS/A-GPS Vs. GLONASS

Can anyone explain me the difference between the both and how to switch between them on Nexus 5 or iPhone? Thank You

GPS is the navigation technology invented by US while GLONASS was invented by Russia. You cannot switch between them.

So you mean using both i cant pin point my location within seconds? or it will need longer time like older devices

Having additional GLONASS support will surely aid in getting the fix quicker.

GLONASS will basically grant you access to more satellites. If you want a quicker fix, the best way is to have data on.

Theoretically it should be possible to pick one of GPS / GLONASS. But I think currently that feature is not there in any phone.
In future when India's GAGAN is active. We might have option to select GAGAN / GPS / GLONASS or all.

I thought GLONASS was specific for Russian territory and surrounding areas? It covers the entire planet?

Yes entire planet. It has 24 satellites in total if I am not wrong.

I wonder what is happening with Galileo.

Many countries are having GPS Satellites, including China I guess. But I don't saw any option to select GPS or GLONASS.
A-GPS is assisted GPS based on Cellular data, so that requires data ON.
