Airtel Xstream,
I have BSNL FTTH taken directly from BSNL. I have taken TYPE A ONT on rent. But in the bill they dont charge rent for the ONT. In the bill its written like this
"Plan FTTH-FREE-NON-WIFI-ONT-TYPE-A". Anybody has any idea?

My bill comes 990Rs for 50 Mbps plan 600 Gb data

@Rahul Kalani We are on annual billing plan; but then the annual plan did not include the ONT rent and we continued to receive monthly recurring charges of ₹106 (₹90 + GST). We had to pay the advance ONT annual rent separately.

You are right @varkey, though we had approached the BSNL office for the FTTH connection, it was installed by private agency.

@varkey Oh is it? Have no idea about that, but we have already paid for the next one year.

We still are happy to buy a new ONT device with better functionality. The BSNL provided one is very basic. If we buy ONT which has phone line out socket also, which would you suggest?

Also, BSNL has MAC bound the connection; can we clone the MAC of new device to continue WAN authentication or should request BSNL to bind new MAC?

If you are looking for a pure bridge ONT I'd recommend the Huawei HG8010H (EPON) or HG8310M (GPON). This doesn't have a telephone port, there are other Huawei models with telephone port as well. You might need to order the Huawei models from AliExpress. Although I did see few listings on IndiaMart.

Another easily available ONT with telephone port is the Netlink HG323RGW (note that the same model is rebranded with many different names, it's all made by the same OEM). I would get this only if you need the telephone port else go for the Huawei pure bridge models.

Yes, if your login is Mac bound, then you should be able to clone the WAN side Mac on your router which would do PPPoE auth. You wouldn't need to get BSNL to reset the Mac binding in your case.

We do need the telephone line mandatory, as it is used for incoming calls. So with the Netlink HG323RGW arey ou sure we can have it working without the help of BSNL and LCO?

If you are very sure of doing the MAC clone, will buy the Netlink HG323RGW immediately as the BSNL ONT is not reaching out to our needs. Please do suggest @varkey

@newbie2902 @ChrisM So there are two separate bindings/whitelists which might be applicable

1. PPPoE authentication MAC binding.
2. ONT whitelisting at the OLT level

#1 is easy as you can simply clone the existing bound MAC address to your router. This is applicable when you configure the ONT in bridge mode. If you want to do PPPoE on the new ONT, not all ONTs support cloning the Mac address.

#2 this depends on how the OLT is configured, but most ONTs allow you to tweak the PON authentication parameters, so you should ideally be able to clone the same serial number and password etc used by your existing ONT which should make the OLT think your new ONT is whitelisted. Similar to MAC cloning.
Some OLTs are configured to not even require any authentication (like my LCO's) so whatever you connect should just work.

@ChrisM Which is your existing ONT?

@newbie2902 As stated above, the PPPoE auth Mac binding is a non-issue and can be easily cloned. However the ONT whitelisting I'm not sure and would vary with how its configured and the OLT make too. Especially with Alphion OLTs, I am not sure, so if you can temporarily procure a different ONT, you could test it before purchasing.

Yeah, the first Alphion device installed at our place wasn't working so the LCO changed the device next day and also mentioned to his office (not BSNL) the serial number of the new device. After this, he called up the BSNL office for MAC binding.

So, our connection is both MAC-PPPoE and ONT-Whitelisting dependent. Will find out with the LCO and BSNL office if we can change the ONT device.
