I think a second visit to the Hathway guy again should help. Lunch time today. Folks, you have 2 hrs to put in any questions that I would need to ask.

Got a call from Hathway today. The box costs Rs. 6,666 and we will get 1 year subscription. After a year, I can opt for Rs. 4200/year plan, which means that ideally the cost of the box is just Rs. 2,466. Upto 3 years, the box will be Hathway's property. But the most disappointing part is that there is no recording function. I asked him about the USB slot recorder, and he said that he has no idea about it. And for the recorders, he said that the experimental process is on and the HD recorders shall be available in the market soon. So I'll probably wait for the recorder before purchasing it.

They shud be providing support atleast for that functionality soon. Else i dont see any reason to put a USB slot!

USB for updating software? How does that happen? I thought all DTH players had OTA updates. Does Airtel follow a different method?

OTA is also available, and even USB software update. Whenever my STB was updated, it was always via the automatic OTA update.I had asked the USB doubt to the guy who had come to install it at my place and later also to one of the CC guys, both said that the USB slot is for software updates and recoveries.

So thats good if u have missed out on a critical update! V have to always wait for the next OTA update slot to get fixed.
