I remember the movie Shivaji the Boss. A person who wants to create revolution end up in the political mess. I think it would hard time for you to get profitable in India, not because of customer but because of political lobby of Airtel, Tata and Reliance in the Ministry.I hope you don't end up in huge losses, just because of govt. attitude. We will be with you till the last minute.

Would like to get some final update on this.

Have you launched your service anywhere in *India*
Even not, have you at least done beta testing with *real users*
If yes, can you tell me estimate when you will roll out your broadband in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).

Being a Marketing Student, I guess its not speed much users will think in India (expect BDF members). What they want is the nice introduction of the advantages of broadband that could be offered. So, I guess a revolution with nice marketing strategy could do a lot.

1. No.
2. Employees only.
3. Not until the service is launched in Mumbai, although strangely Ahmedabad was discussed as an early contender simply because there's very little competition there and I'm told it would be a reasonably easy city to lay cable in (this was Ripunjay's idea, not mine).

he has no final date still but it should be here in this year by the looks of it .Yeah if our government babus dont screw him again with all the paper work:redface:

That's why I'm getting everything attested at the Indian embassy this time - they can't say no to an embassy stamp.

You do realize that it's in Airtel, Reliance and Tata's best interests NOT to stop me, right?

I buy wholesale bandwidth from them (not by choice, but because they're the only companies allowed to run international gateways in India). Selling their cable capacity to me (one enterprise customer) is far easier and more profitable than them selling the same to thousands of home-users who, as it turns out, THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN AT ALL.

They'd rather sell a 2mbit/s leased line for 1 lakh to a business than a 2mbit/s consumer broadband connection for like 2k because the consumer requires lots of support and the business doesn't - that and the business pays significantly more money for the false security of an SLA.

Profit is not a problem - that's why the service is pre-paid (so we don't get ripped off - and so that YOU don't get ripped off with fake agents coming around and demanding money and presenting fake bills or whatever: yes, these things have actually been discussed between our staff and on Twitter). BUT, the advantage is, like with a mobile topup, your payment is applied to your account instantly and you're good to go until it runs out (time or data), and better still: no surprises at the end of the month.

I hope you get passed in Mumbai. I guess you can face difficulty initially but once that done you will able to do everything on extensive level. Remember as per *easy business doing* India was at 88 rank even far from Pakistan which was at 70 I guess. Because of Private lobby in our Ministry it is very hard for new comers to launch anything I guess. Hopefully you pass all the stages of our babu and revolute the broadband. I guess once done, you can be called Father of Broadband in India atleast at *BDF* as we all know.

One more thing, if you need any help from me regarding Ahmedabad, let me know.

Best of luck.

We're not having any issues with the TRAI or DoT or any lobbyists as far as I know. Now I'm just waiting on my paperwork to be shuffled around between Wellington and Delhi.

And FTR, last I checked India was the 146th most friendly jurisdiction to do business (out of 205 recognized countries)... I don't recall Pakistan's ranking, but I did check up on starting a company there too and from what I read it's supposed to take about 2 weeks total.

I didn't checked back the list before posting a reply. What I was sure that we have worst ranking than other neighbor countries except Myanmar.

To me its because competitors that are opposing any such move. Companies like Pepsico, Honda, Coke are very big enough and there govt. (us, japan) pressurize Indian Govt. to make their time processing quicker.

And to my knowledge New Zealand ranked 1st in the transparency rate (0.05 % corruption) while India was at around 100 with corruption rate of around 36%.

Something our young generation need to learn to fight this corruption.

find it hard to believe

The criteria they have taken to measure the ease of doing business have nothing to do with population and size , most are related to government policy and regulations
