Hi there all,I'm new to this forum. Wanted some help regarding setting up WiFi at home.I'm having a P4 Desktop (with XP SP2) & Sony Vaio SR26 (XP SP3) laptop and D-Link 502T router.Would be getting a Linksys WRT160N Router for WiFi this weekend:yahoo:.I know that 502T has two internet connection port i.e. LAN & USB. When I get my wifi router, i would connect my desktop through USB and the Linksys router through LAN. I'm not connecting my desktop through Linksys LAN port as i keep my computer running for 8 hrs for night unlimited downloads.Using desktop through Linksys router LAN would result in keeping both the D-Link as well as the Linksys Wifi kept on through out the night:wall:. And when using the through the USB port I would only need to kepp the D-Link 502T on and not the Linksys router. So when I get the WiFi router how do I configure it with my VAIO for wireless connection keeping the desktop connected through USB.PLS help guys. Looking forward to ur replies. Thanks in advance.

For REeference : GOA BSNL web site for DSL502T.
Dlink Settings for Broadband

Test now desktop in both USB Port and Ethernet port.

Connect only one cable at a time from modem/router DSL 502T.

Enable DHCP in the router. IN TCP/IP Obtain IP address automatically.
In USB Mode your speed likely to be less.

essbebe u wrote "In USB Mode your speed likely to be less." Why so??:Oessbebe i have used my 502T router with both LAN & USB at the same time with 2 different systems.;)

You should use WPA2 as it offers the best security. But Win XP does not have this feature. It comes as a patch to Win XP SP2. Check out the two links below for more info. Most of the new routers will offer this feature.

Windows XP: Improve the security of your wireless home network

Implement WPA2-Personal wireless security on a Windows XP SP2-based computer

I have used WPA2 on my laptop using Vista & Linksys WRT54G wireless router http://socrates0.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-to-configure-linksys-wrt54g.html
Yoour model is different but fundas wil be the same. :)

there shouldnt be a difference in internet speed between USB and LAN, but network or file sharing speeds will be different..

Thanks guys for ur help, specially Socrates Blog helped a lot in setting up the router. And I was having Chip Magazine Oct 08 issue which helped me secure my Wi-Fi. And I got the Linksys WRT54G2 instead of WRT160N, as the range of N was too much which would result in everyone getting it. And I got WRT54G2 for Rs. 2600:dance:.And Socrates u can add one more thing to ur blog that, if u have Zone Alarm installed in ur PC/ Laptop always keep it running while setting up the router because it blocks the Pc/ Laptop to connect to the internet and u get the Error Code 65.:@Thanks again.:thumb:

In my case I NEVER shut down the firewall ver 8.0.059.00 or vaccine & if something new is detected by the firewall it will ask me what to do. :) You can physically add the IP range (I also use a WiFi router) DNS entries etc
