BSNL 3G
Hello friends,i am Tarun from Andhra pradesh,I have got a bsnl 2g cellone postpaid connection.I have used bsnl postpaid unlimited gprs earlier for a monthly rental of 249 INR.
I am using Sony Ericsson G502 (3.5 G) mobile,i got maximum gprs speed of 20kbps in Edge network. Now after 2 months of the launch of 3G services in my city (Guntur) in Andhra Pradesh,i migrated to 3g services a few days back.My postpaid voice plan is Plan 123,and the additional monthly charge for using 3g services is as follows
Dear subscriber for 3G services Rent Rs.25/month, Video call charges Local 70p/min,Data calls/GPRS calls at 1 paise/10kb will be charged. If you want to subscriber pl send sms "M3GY" to 53733 - BSNLMOBILE
i confirmed to the message and within 10 min's i was able to access 3g services i got all the data settings and mobile tv settings. The 3g speeds are very good at my place.I got a download speed of 2.73 mbps ( Which i think is better and equal to wired broadband) some times it reached speed upto 3.2 mbps, but i didn't get speed below 2 mbps at any time which is good .. but i got a few queries as i think many of you know that bsnl CC is not good and we never get answered for many of the queries.. I thought your forum can help me as there are many people using great BB services..

My queries are as follows:

1) What are the ON-NET and OFF-NET calls mean in the bsnl 3g tariff plans?

2)As i have mentioned above i migrated to 3G, will my voice plan change? If so what are the charges for voice calls?

3) I used 344 mb of data by connecting my phone to laptop in PHONE AS MODEM MODE and when i sent sms USG to 53333 to check my usage details.. i am shocked to see this message "Dear Customer,Your Usage Call Amt IS Rs 344.55.approx.GPRS USAGE OFFpeak: 201300 KB ,Peak: 2953085 KB approx for current month.Roaming charge not current." Actually the message is meant to check usage of calls and the charges incurred for them and also the gprs charges...but i am confused with the message i got.( I have pasted the message above in italic letters).. please clarify me about this.

4) I am quite confused about data card and mobile broadband, tell me can i use my phone as 3g modem for accessing internet and is there any data plan (like gprs data plans) in bsnl 3g postpaid connection. As the plans are available in bsnl website they seems confusing..i didn;t get whether they are meant for 3g usb data card or ( for both mobile and usb, data card).. Please clarify me.....

I have got more questions but i think its not good for a new user to pose so many questions..

I hope you people got my problem and i hope that you will get back the answers for my doubts.. Plzz Plzz help me .. I am very thankful to you..Thank you all in advance and i like this forum as it is helpful for many users who want to get their doubts clarified.

With Regards

Tarun

As I understand (E&OE), the data plans on their website will allow you "free" data traffic (up+down) to the extent allowed in the plan -for example, 0.5 GB total for the "low-end" data plan of app. 250 rs. with a validity of 30 days. You will be charged a fixed monthly charge of 249/- plus taxes on activation of this plan which is called a "Data plan". If your usage exceeds the limit, you will be charged @ the rate specified (INR 1/Mb) which will be added to your bill. Your bill = A+B+C+D... A=Fixed Monthly Charge for data plan (~250/-); B=service tax; C=usage charges beyond limit @ INR 1/MB. D=voice call charges with the phone.
In case of prepaid account, he has to recharge with a voucher of value A+B and if he exceeds the 0.5 GB limit, the excess charge @INR 1/Mb will be deducted from his voice plan where he has to hold a min balance of Rs 50/-..!

In your case, I guess because you had not activated any data plan, all your usage seems to have been placed under item 'C' of your bill. If you had activated even the 249 plan you could have used another ~150 MB or so with a bill of just ~250/= under data Plan FMC (Item A). I am myself new to this so you must confirm this with more authentic sources of information.
further, in my experience, of the data usage, only Item C will appear in your SMS queries. So charges under item C and D will show in the SMS queries. Needless to say, if you had a data plan in place and your 344 MB being within the limit, the amount would not have reflected in your SMS query!

hello sir thank you :) for your kind answer, can you tell me how can i activate the 249 plan..and also you have not given any answer about ON-NET and OFF-NET Calls. I am very thankful to your quick reply..plz do give me more information if possible about this. Also i want to know is the free mobile tv in 3g for 10 hours ( Preview) activation will be billed or itz free of cost..??

onnet means - bsnl to bsnloffnet means - bsnl to other operators ( tata, reliance, airtel etc)

I called CC yesterday and to my shocking they told me that " There are no DATA PLANS available at current to the prepaid and postpaid users those who surf the net either from mobile or by connecting the mobile to pc/laptop for using net.when asked them about the plans they displayed in website!! they answered coolly that they are only meant for 3g usb data card or data card users only **** now i am with bsnl..i have to pay 1k this month... The only thing they said to me is browsing will cost me 1paise per 10 kb means 1mb==1rupeee..its pathetic..

I think there may be a mistake here by the CC. I remember that in my case, the AE who sold me the data card at the commercial centre was better informed. I think you should verify it with the higher authorities near your place. Paying a personal visit could help. [Babu-giri and all that being what it is, still surprisingly they seemed to be friendly to me when I went to my nearest commercial centre to enquire about my data card ] The data card also has an IMEI number, so would the network be programmed to discriminate between mobile phones and data cards? I Doubt very much.
