Hi guys,My father is a state govt employee. My telephone is in his name. I read that there is 20% discount for state and central govt employees. Is this offer still available. If it is how do i apply for it.

Sub: Promotional Scheme of Broadband for Government Employees.
In order to boost the acquisition and usage of Broadband among government employees,
the competent authority has approved 20% discount on Broadband Service charges
(usage and rental) for Broadband connections provided to Central Government/
State Government/ PSU Employees category.
The scheme is to be launched from
1st December 2008 across BSNL network and is a continuous scheme.
The serving and retired government employees applying for Broadband
connection under this scheme, should furnish an undertaking countersigned
by their Drawing and Disbursing Officer regarding their bonafide along with the application.
In case of retired employees, an attested copy of the Pension Pay Order
should be submitted along with the application. The application should be marked
as “FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES SCHEME”.
The scheme is also applicable to existing Broadband customers
who are serving/retired government employees subject to
their furnishing an undertaking as detailed above.
The discount of 20% in Broadband Service charges for the existing
customers will also be applicable if they apply, from the month of such application....................

There is a specific application which you can get from your exchange. Fill it and get it attested from your father's office by a competent authority. Give it to the BSNL office. That is all. You are eligible for 20 % discount.

Thx guys. Will apply this week and change my plan to Home-1000. My parents do a lot of video chatting and my existing 2.5gb limit on Home500 is not sufficient.So will get a Home-1000 for Rs.800. Thats quite good.

you could go for a UL750 plan.. you have to pay 750rs and you get unlimited usage.. but only 256kbps which is frankly speaking good enough for audio/video conferencing

But i even download a lot. I was on UL900 (back when it was Rs.900) for about 2 years. The problem is i will have to switch in my pc for the whole day to download 2-2.2gb. One more thing to consider is the frequent power cuts. I wont be around to restart my pc again during the day. But now with a link-removed premium account and a Home 500 plan i download about 4gb during those 6 hrs. Even on torrents i get speeds upto 180-200kbps in private trackers.

well , in that case i guess home 1000 would be a good plan to choose
