I have to admit, I have no idea. This has been my experience…ICICI Bank recently mailed me that they were no longer going to send paper statement by postal mail.I have two options. I can either make do with emailed statements. Or I can apply for a passbook. About the passbook, the email clearly said:You can also ask for a pass book at your nearest branch.Today, I decided to give it a go. I went to my ‘nearest branch’ (Sector 31 Market Gurgaon) to get a passbook for my savings bank account. I was told that there were some technical problems and only this branch right now was not able to provide passbooks to customers. I was told to visit any other branch where I could get a passbook on the spot.I decided to take it one step further. I went to another branch of ICICI Bank (Civil Lines Gurgaon). There I was told that I can only get a passbook from the branch where I have my account.I decided to do exactly that. I went to the branch where my account was located (Sector 14 Gurgaon). Was told… I can leave the application and come back after a week or so to collect my passbook. I was not amused by this. I asked for more details. Was told that only the home branch has the powers to update my passbook so I would have to deal with them. Not exactly what ICICI Bank indicated in their initial mail.I did the next best thing. I applied to transfer my account from that branch to the one nearest to my home. This process would take three days. The bank representative at the local branch had told me that it would take them at least 2 weeks to start distributing passbooks again. So well… The waiting begins.

You would need a recent statement for proof. I want to avoid getting into a situation where I have to run to a bank and pay for a printed statement and then get it stamped and signed to get an address proof.

Because photocopy of passbook would work as address proof. Printouts of PDFs usually are not accepted as address proof.
i wouldnt ask this question , the bank staff will ask :D
till now i use my SBI passbook for all address proof needs

chromaniac: I think you can submit a e-statement printout as valid address proof, however these Pvt banks are supposed to be taking "khayal aapka" and not known for asking a customer to visit from one branch to another.
I remember, ICICI used to provide many things in simplified way, and on the spot, no matter which branch you visit. (passbook may be exception)
anyway you should certainly write this on a email and send it to their quality control, there's no harm in telling them that you have provided least information about passbook thing to customers in Ads and to your staff before you made them sit and operate a branch.
: funny thing is i wrote password for passbook above, its been more than a decade since i owned one.

ICICI Bank does not itself accept printed e-statement as address proof. Hypocrisy.
I have owned one passbook which is for my PPF account. I assume all PPF accounts come with a passbook.
ICICI Bank charges for statements:
Issue of Duplicate Statement
Rs.100 per statement at branch or Customer Care (non-IVR), Rs. 50 per statement through Customer Care (IVR), ATM and Net banking

lol. got a call from my local branch right now.apparently, they cannot issue me a passbook because my account is in 'statement mode'.i need to give them an application to convert my account from 'statement mode' to 'passbook mode'.i would then get in the queue and they would issue me a passbook when my number arrives.apparently it is my fault that they would either mail me statements or issue me a passbook. and i have been trying to get a passbook with my account in statement mode.
