I want to burn an avi file into a DVD which I could watch on normal DVD players. I have tried burning it directly as a data disk using Nero 8, but that didn't work. I am searching for a tool to convert avi to vob, I googled it and downloaded 'Any video Converter' but that didn't really have an option called VOB.Can anyone explain what all I should do to convert and burn an avi file into a DVD, I am a complete noob when it comes to DVD video burning , and google hasn't really helped.

if you have the complete nero package... it should have the option to make a DVD movie out of video files on your computer. it would automatically handle the video conversion to the correct format... you can try out total video converter... it has worked fine for me in the past. though... NERO SHOULD DO IT ON ITS OWN.

forget it... just download Movie Maker - Windows Live and use it to make your dvd. this application is pretty awesome. it takes the raw MTS format files from my camcorder and i use it to convert it into smaller files of my choice.

^ I assume you have verified that your DVD player does NOT support AVIs?

Yes , I have.

Thank you I would download that too,

After a lot of googling, I actually managed to find out, there is a software called video dvd maker, its free and it helps to author avi files, after that I could burn it using nero.
Nero also has a similar product, but its not free.

You Can also use Format Factory to convert to VOB....it is the best tool for conversion to different formats.....audio, video, images, etc....
