How to use Indian Debit Cards on International Sites?

Just made a payment for hot spot shield using my HDFC card & worked like a charm.
Conversion rate shown on XE was 1792.46 & banks statement shows 1797.19... fair enough I guess.

In my case, I have chip based ICICI debit card. It works with paypal.
About 3D security of Indian banks, I found many merchants are having gateway which directs to 3d security of bank for authentication.
