If its true - Why do they want to want to get into another mess? Anyway, I expect them to price this one too high to be a success ..

HP has a good shot at getting it right this time around. They are not experimenting with their own OS. They are adopting the market leader.
They are one of the largest PC makers in the world. They are doing good financially. They can afford to play the price card at least initially to get established in the Android segment. They have a wide presence around the world.
If anyone can challenge Samsung (apart from Nokia), it's got to be Hewlett Packard.

Actually, I was referring to the iPhone-like design as far as the mess goes. Entering the phone segment is ok. But, again I dont expect them to be competitive, I expect them to launch phones at prices which Sony, HTC & Samsung do & expect people to queue to buy them.

What they need to do is to follow the Nexus model. Launch stock Android devices with minimal customization. Sure, load your own apps and services but do not integrate them so deeply that you get another mess in your hands. Focus on 2-3 models in different price segments and sell them unlocked.

In any case, I am pretty confident brands like Asus, Acer, Lenovo & Panasonic are already struggling because people either go for the Samsung/HTC or Micromax and its chinese counterparts. I feel HP will simply join the list of the former group like the Panasonic & Co.
Atleast HTC/Sony/LG has some buyers. Motorola also can hope to use the Google branding to take some share. Very less hope for now for the brands stuck in between.

Unless they do something which no other manufacturers have done yet, like chromaniac said in post #5.

Well, one can understand the reason why companies want to customize, because otherwise it just becomes a question of comparing the specs and design & choosing one. Ofcourse, they feel that people would buy their device for the customization, which though partially stupid is true for the common user.
