In US banks (atleast some used to) charge $8 for in bank withdrawal. I heard it was raised to $10. It felt crazy at that time.

Are they crazy? They have applied the fee on wealth customers too. HDFC is miles ahead from icici. You get imperia membership and forget about any charges anywhere.
