i read that more and more americans are going for local banks ditching the big names because of unfair charges. the concept does not exist here in india i guess. the smaller cooperative banks are usually in the news for scams and all that. and of course, with smaller banks you do not get the advantages of online shopping through internet banking etc etc. sucks that a lot of us are literally forced to stick one of the popular brands even though the quality of service support is sub-par.
They should better introduce minimum balance in your account all the time. LolzzI have closed my ICICI a/c by paying 2200/- because of negative balance due to minimum balance penalties. :haha:
^ my bad! main ye kahna chahta hu prabhu ki unko apne customers ko ye kah dena chahiye ki aapke account me har samay kam se kam itane rupaye hone chahiye.maine apne a/c ko 2200 penalty pata ke close kar diya ye penalty isliye dena pada kyuki maine minimum balance maintain nahi kiya tha!
All my life I hated SBI. My father being an ex-employee of SBI, I found at that time that it was the worst. After opening an account in all the major banks (private and public sector), I think now SBI is the best bank. No additional charges, faster service, great ATM network, what more do you need?Anyways a credit card is the best for online transactions but for general banking activities SBI is the best. Will close my ICICI account once its not the salary account...
While SBI is no doubt safe (and good), I still wouldn't go as far as to say they are the best bank. Online banking is a boon for people like me, and I absolutely love the fact that I have not had to visit my Citibank branch in the last 6 years. Ditto for ICICI when I only had to visit a year back to deposit some high value cheque (turned out their definition of high value had changed by then and I could have dropped it in the ATM). I have an SBI account, and it is lying dormant just because I forgot my username password, as also the ATM PIN. To reset either of these, I have to visit the branch, which I did, but the new username password never worked, and there is no way I can check it in the bank in front of them. Likewise for the ATM PIN, having to keep visiting the branch each time to see if the PIN has arrived is painful. [For the uninitiated, how it works for SBI is, if you lose your ATM PIN, you can raise a request on phone banking, who will then send it to their central processing branch, which will dispatch the PIN to your home branch, from where you need to collect it. W E I R D.]
SBI might not be perfect but they are good, may be they will get more better in the future.CitiBank is gud, but too costly to maintain if its not a salary account. HDFC are one of the worst. They need address proof for change of address, wont update their mobile number, need to visit their branch. HDFC Bank credit card tops everything, You need to write a letter to update address/mobile number and drop at ATM One thing I noticed in SBI. No need to fill forms to deposit money, just give the debit card and money and its all done! The queues in Govt Banks are way better than private sector. One thing is for sure that with the advent of private banks, public sector banks raised their efficiency and are catering well to the customers.
It is really sad if they are moving to AMB from AQB especially after the increase in minimum balance a few years ago. AQB is a fairer system and a monthly system might create problem for low end customers.Having said that, ICICI was my first ever bank and I have always been with them and like their services both online as well as offline. No other Indian bank that I know of has the dual authentication system in netbanking as ICICI has got which makes it safer while using. Their customer care is also better than most other banks and their IVR has the best options including checking the balance automatically with PIN. Technically they are the best bank in India especially for techies with a very professional support. Never faced any problems with ICICI and they always got my work done instantly whenever I went to bank. They also made me a priority/privilege customer a few years ago and so, things happen even quicker than. So, I like their service the best though I bank with several banks.Having said that, I also like Axis bank nowadays and their minimum balance (Rs.5000 for urban and Rs.1000 for rural), FD interest rates and other things are mostly better than other major banks. But I do not like their online banking user interface and looks like some archaic bank. HDFC netbanking interface is also quite good. To be honest, SBI is not that bad either especially minimum balance (Rs.1000 only), interest rates etc. but the professionalism of staff in their banks and online banking is not that good. And there is no priority system there which means you might have to wait for the whole day to get your work done as everybody from every strata of society needs to wait in the same queue. Makes sense and is a good system but then busy people do not like such a system.
