Nice Reply! :)
It seems it same about Idea.

Idea is a very Old Player in Maharashtra. So if Sim Card would be 2-3 years Old, then it needs to be changed . Mostly Postpaid Sim Cards are of 32K or 64K which are 3G ready whereas Old Prepaid Sim Cards 16K needs to be upgraded as their capacity is low. And Now a days it takes merely Rs 25 to get the replaced Sim Card .

But if technically thought I think sim doesnt play role of memory in any manner execpt storing contact, sms & outgoing & incoming (by d number) thats why 3g phone are different than others.

technically its correct that no new sim card is required for 3G handsets because 3G handsets have inbuilt USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) which has a a logical entity on the physical card called as UICC. These smartcard and entries make the handset and simcard compatible for 3G , but in rare cases e.g Hutch was having Segan handset and they run on different Sim Card. In that kind of cases Sim Change would be required compulsarily .
