India and the problem with WhatsApp forwards

More changes to forwarding

A few years back we added a feature to WhatsApp that lets you forward a message to multiple chats at once.

Today, we're launching a test to limit forwarding that will apply to everyone using WhatsApp. In India - where people forward more messages, photos, and videos than any other country in the world - we'll also test a lower limit of 5 chats at once and we'll remove the quick forward button next to media messages.

We believe that these changes - which we'll continue to evaluate - will help keep WhatsApp the way it was designed to be: a private messaging app.

^^^ TBH its true. Lynching was happening even 10-20 years ago when WhatsApp was not there.
 
^ but its no brainer whatsapp is making it easy for people to arrange lynchings. recent bidar lynching wouldnt have been possible without whastapp. not saying whastapp should be banned all together but certain steps need to be taken to find out the orgin of these forwards
 
arrest a few people inciting violence on whatsapp and it might be enough to scare majority of people without political connections.
