@xyx2000 unless you’re vaccinated with inactivated ones.. they serve as a baseline for all future variants. On another note, I still don’t understand why people and researchers keep vouching for those mRNA vaccines when clearly they need to keep making a new one for every variant that comes.

The purpose of a booster is to make infection mild, it can't prevent infection. Now the virus is already mild.

I have had covid twice ( delta with pneumonia and omicron ) and two doses of covaxin.

@pillaicha What I meant is, since inactivated vaccines contain the whole virus, they provide a better chance at fighting the infection no matter which variant you get infected with. Other type of vaccines (mRNA/viral-vector/protein subunit) are made to recognise and target only the spike protein, which is where most of the mutations take place and are likely to evade immune response.

This has been thoroughly disproved by dozens of studies. Inactivated virus vaccines consistently perform the worst in terms of immune response to new variants.

That article is totally flawed and misleading, every study in that article clearly states that it’s not peer-reviewed, first study itself mentions that antibody levels of coronavac inoculated participants against omicron was limited to 25 people out of the billions of doses administered.

Also in that article, they have written about Covaxin producing “sub-optimal” levels of antibodies against omicron, during which, booster dose program had not even started in India. Third dose studies of Covaxin clearly shows how efficacious it is against Delta and Omicron.

Also, antibody levels alone don’t dictate the efficacy of a vaccine, whatever antibodies these other vaccines are producing are against the spike protein only. The reason why you’re getting low antibody levels from inactivated vaccines is because they provide broad spectrum immunity to every viral particle and not just the spike protein.
