🔴 Apar Gupta, Vrinda Bhandari writes: The JPC report and the Data Protection Bill, 2021 protect the government instead of the personal data of Indian citizens
IFF submitted comments in the ongoing consultation for India Digital Ecosystem Architecture (InDEA) 2.0 released by the MeitY in January 2022. Our core approach is towards ensuring that the rollout of the architecture happens in a manner that safeguards the rights of the user.
The government is likely to bring changes in the Data Protection Bill, in a manner that only companies based in countries sharing land border with India, need to store consumer data within the country.
Under the draft Bill, entities dealing with users’ personal data are mandated to store a copy of such data within India and the export of undefined “critical” personal data is prohibited.
