signal probably has no local presence here in india as they are not running a for-profit business. so it can only be banned. same with telegram.

facebook needs to decide if they want to start making compromises to please indian government now. once they start, there is no stopping because the government is not going to stop with their demands.

also as someone mentioned. google and microsoft would eventually get targeted as well. google is enabling e2e in rcs which is designed to replace sms. government already has complete access to texts. rcs takes away that control from them. microsoft is a big player in india with teams platform though it does not seem to have e2e. Apple imessage would probably become a victim as well.

Agreed; and that is precisely what I meant when I said they would come after Signal. It would be taken off the stores. There was news they were trying to tell Apple that if they did not provide a way, they would ask the networks to take their phones off the networks in India. This was during the phase when TRAI wanted to have access to iOS to read SMS and call logs in a way that was unacceptable to Apple.
