Nah.Bill Clinton was a democrat, & manufacturing got out-sourced like there was no tomorrow (to china). Even for services, its the same story (Bush made a big deal of jobs lost under clinton, but did nothing about when he came to power). It will continue as ever, its just that opposition always needs an issue to beat the party in power.

Yaa, any govt in US is going to do what big businesses want. Quite a few companies (Non IT companies, actual clients of IT companies) have opened shop in places like Philippines. And they find it cheaper to have their own captive centers in those countries as compared to paying Accenture/TCS/EDS/Infy in India.

Being a network engineer means being at lower end of IT (lower then App Dev but better then IT Infrastructure). Or did you mean to say Network Programmer or Netwrok Application developer?

Security is different ball game and gets paid well too. But you hit the ceiling at mid-career. Since with security, you are always a "cost" to company. For geed security jobs, start preparing for GRE.. and then netwrok while you are in US.

Networking with 5 yrs of exp paid much better than a programming job. When companies were racing to get connected up 10 yrs ago, it was huge bucks. Also you are in constant contact with management. It can be stressful and there is bigger shortage in it than in programming. Why cos, you can't just pick it up, you need exp with the equipment Cisco et al. Oh you can certainly study it, and there are courses here for it. Thng is, this is cool job to have if ur in the US, it cant be outsourced that easily and it's easy to start ur own practice after 10 yrs in the industry. You have to be physically present, and you need to be able to talk to mgmt.

Security is just a shit job, it might get a lot of press, but remember every time there is a break-in you are responsible. Better to actually be writing/designing the shit than the poor admin that gets blamed for implementing it. But then ur in a tech product company, big big risk and very long hrs too.

App dev. hmm what happens after 10 yrs in it. They go find a cheaper guy, if you did not manage to jump into mgmt of some description you are screwed. Isn't it true in this country ?

In that case I would like to be a Technology dev or a Product dev.

Technology and product development is very tough to get into initially. once in the pay is very good.As a matter of fact with many MNC's setting up research divisions here in India it is a nice choice.I myself work in product dev in Embedded sytems/ Digital signal processing for an American based MNC and this work is much better and more challenging ( in my opinion) than what my friends to in Infy or CTS.

Have a look at my post.

As you go up the ladder (in that pyramid)r, pay and technical challange gets better. Its not dependent on company.

Even with Infy or TCS you can work on thins like Finacle (product)/ Signature Recognition (pure technology).
Product dev outsourcing is a hot area in IT.

And again, this is a pyramid, so number will always be less on top.

Even in a product company you will have guys doing level 2 or 3 support, maintenance or QA.

quite true but it takes a long time to reach the top.At the minimum of 5-6 years and with the current competition might take even more time.Considering the product dev outsourcing is much new there is always more vacancy, again this is a relative term since getting in is a bit tedious( again in my opinion).

True, but we outsource that work, no point in paying a huge amount of salary when someone can do it for less, for example in my company, generally Architecting is in US, Implementing and porting is in India and any routine maintanance issues either outsource or give it to freshers :D :D .
