iPhone 3G Out in India Next Month!!!???

I doubt it, I think both of their plans would be somewhat same.
 
3G is not a decision Vodafone or Airtel or Apple can take! It is the Government of India and they still have not provided the spectrum for 3G. Discussions are going on... and we may see some action by the end of this year or early next year. Till then, you can't use 3G features.

By the way, 3G phones are not new here. My E61i is 3G enabled for instance... I can't use it till the govt resolves the spectrum allocation issues.

Also, 199$ price tag is with a two year contract. In India such contracts don't work. So the carriers will be charging much more than 199$ for the phone. I expect the price of the 8GB model between 15 to 17K.

Still, with EDGE most of those data application do work albeit a little slowly. I use the EDGE service today on my E61i and I love it. My monthly bill is around 1500 rupees but what the heck! you get what you pay for
