how? if you want to buy a good htc PDA in USA, the unsubsidized price is about $600. the old iPhone was priced at 800 euros in European countries because by local laws they were not allowed to make customers sign contracts. So $200 is a premium.

my friend purchased the htc tytn for around rs. 24000 last year in USA. unlocked so that he could use it here in india. no contracts.

they are not waiting to get the iPhone. they are just trying to set a world record...

iPhone 3G lines start at the Apple Cube... one week early - Engadget

Update: We got a chance to speak with group leader Daniel on video, who let us in the gang's desire to break the world record for waiting in line, as well as some... er, broad political ideas. We also learned that the baby probably won't be forced to stay outside of the Apple Store all week. See it for yourself in the clip after the break!

Update 2: According to a Fortune report on the group, five of the ten have already hit the road, and New York City cops sent the baby packing not long after we visited the scene. The remaining neo-hippies have also refined their confused political message as well, which manages to come off as somehow more inane than just wanting to break a world record.

Those people are pathetic at worst, and laughable at best. I love Nokia (for it's S60 platform), but the day you see me camping outside a Nokia store a week in advance is the day I will put a gun to my head.

The unsubsidized 3G iPhone is $599 (Rs. 26,000) for the 8GB model. The only comparable phone is the Nokia N95 8GB which I believe sells for around the same price. So yes, you are right, Sushubh, it doesn't really come at much of a premium. I do remember the time when buying a 40GB Creative player cost me $200 less than a 40GB iPod!!!!

Hmmm,,, so I wonder if this will start a price war! That would be great! Though my guess is that the iPhone 8GB will cost closer to 30,000 here and the 16GB one for 35,000.

Isn't it ?

..where your whole purpose in life revolves around what you have.

You don't matter anymore, but if you have x or y then its different.

look i have the iPhone. i am so l33t. :Pi bought a zune. i am not ashamed to admit that. it is dead after just one year of use. :D

exactly, everyone should set limits for himself as to how much of this thingies he would want to own. Life becomes a mess, if one start competing with collegues.
