I want to book a ticket on the irctc website. How can I ensure I get the lower side berth on the 3ac? It's the Ranikhet Express. Will book in an hour.

^^ you can not ensure that. you can select lower birth in birth preference but its not guaranteed

if there are many seats available then there are 90% chance that you'll get your preferred birth.i usually do.

If the number of seats is more then there is a chance. Otherwise they will allocate randomly.

There is a good chance that you will get a window seat with that amount of availability.Just make sure you click on the lower berth preference checkbox at the bottom.

Give a try at-least. Later if there are vacant windows seats you can request TT.

Makemytrip directly/indirectly depends upon irctc and they will charge extra fee too. IRCTC should be your first preference IMO.
