Is my LAN card Faulty?

Ok guys, I require an urgent help here. I am trying to debug this issue: I have Windows XP loaded on my PC. I applied for the MTNL broadband connection. But when I tried to connect using this external modum that was provided to me by the service provider (MTNL) the interconnect could not get connected. The connection kept getting connected and disconnected for each few seconds. Then..I suspected that may be its an issue with the operating system. So I loaded Windows XP again. But the issue could not be resolved. Then...I assumed that the PC's LAN card is faulty. So I replaced it. Loaded the new driver and was expecting the issue to disappear completely. I am trying it again...but the connecting is not working. Whenever I try to connect the internet the connection keeps getting connected and disconnected.Can you help me debug this issue? What should I check?

Is there any parallel lines? The tel wire coming into the house should first come to the splitter of your modem, else you will get disconnections.

Hi Socrates ,The broadband wire is coming directly to this external Modum. Another wire connects the ports from the Modum to the LAN card on my PC.I also checked the Modum by looping the broadband wire and it seems to be working fine, I mean the status of the ports was stable.However, when I connect the modum to PC the internet connection is not coming up.

Try ping 192.168.1.1 -t. What do you get. Do you get an error?

Hi Socrates,Before I could ping the IP address that you mentioned, I loaded the LAN Card driver again and tried connecting.The internet is working fine now. I was able to ping google.So I am assuming the issue is resolved. However, when I think why I got this bug I cannot get to the root of it.May be the driver was NOT loaded properly...I don't know.
