Is the Sound volume level too low?

I feel the sound level setting during recording is kept too low to minimise any harmonic distortion in Sun DTH. While using analogue cable, my TV volume is perfect with 12 db level. But wit Sun DTH even a level of 30-40 db sounds inadequate. What is your experience. AIR FM Rainbow Chennai comes at a right level and in excellent stereo.
