What a new Internet might look like is still widely debated, but one alternative would, in effect, create a “gated community” where users would give up their anonymity and certain freedoms in return for safety. Today that is already the case for many corporate and government Internet users. As a new and more secure network becomes widely adopted, the current Internet might end up as the bad neighborhood of cyberspace.

A more secure network is one that would almost certainly offer less anonymity and privacy. That is likely to be the great tradeoff for the designers of the next Internet. One idea, for example, would be to require the equivalent of drivers’ licenses to permit someone to connect to a public computer network. But that runs against the deeply held libertarian ethos of the Internet.

there you have it.A control grid is what internet 2 will be.

Comcast, Time Warner Plan Broadband TV - But what exactly will the new offerings accomplish? - dslreports.com

ccording to a report in today's Wall Street Journal, both Time Warner Cable and Comcast are working with broadcasters on plans to deliver their customers TV programming via the Internet at no additional charge. According to the Journal's sources, the companies are concerned about the proliferation of free video content on the Internet, and are trying to adapt their business models.

YOU SEE thats why they are capping bandwidth. They are scared of the free alternative media.
WHAT DID I TELL YOU internet will be soon a cable tv system.

Agreed. After watching "The Obama Deception" I'm a believer... They want metered Internet and to ban torrents to prevent free alternative media from spreading truth and exposing the corruption and criminal activity at the highest levels of governments across the globe...

WHAT DID I TELL YOU internet will be soon a cable tv system.

This implies it will be mandatory to avail of this service. Where does it say that anywhere in the articles mentioned ?

They are offering an alternative for free, specifically the first hit :)

After that if you want more they stick you on some subscription. I think a lot of ppl will jump at such a plan for the convenience.

So rather than your alarmist pics of metered net, it would be get plain net for so much, if you want TV as well, there is an extra charge. If the speeds are fast enough it will be video on demand. Can you imagine the demand there would be for such a service ?

This sort of service is already avialiable in Hong Kong & Taiwan, if i'm not mistaken. I don't read about ppl from those places screaming they are being screwed, do you :)

If you are not interested then nothing changes. At least in the US they can't discriminate as we saw recently the FCC does not like that.

Markoff's article in the NYtimes is talking about the work at stanford here.

Let us discuss this with less anxiety :)

It gets rolled out to 8 campuses this year, we have to see how that goes.

Far from the net being more restrictive in the future, i see it offering even more possibilites than before.

which is why its is very important we not get stuck in the slow lane with current policies in this country.
