I think you are referring to the reduction in modem rentals(100->60, 150->90 or something like that)... which was old news anyway...

So they expect to triple users in the space of a year. India goes from 3% to 9% of internet users per total population !!!
[/b]

Some quick OT math: 1 million = 0.1% of 1 billion.
India goes from 0.3% to 0.9%.

Still things are going to change.

(Btw, while I was telling this to my friend at Singapore, he told me that his connection too was being upgraded for free: from 6Mbps to 12 Mbps. Damn... that got me sooooo angry.... )

Yes, what about the UNLIMITED!!!??? Don't get too excited as nothing much is happening. Increasing your quota to few GBs mean nothing. If they increase the speed it will finish faster anyway. What is there to be happy about 0.90 paise per MB rate, that is cool Rs. 921/- per one GB. What are we talking about here?? Yes, we can't compare ourselves with the western nations but at least we should do better than the damn China, where high speed internet is $15 USDollar a month, unlimited use. When will we be there??????

well.. currently i'm using reliance & dataone both connections simultaneously @ my home! but as far as connectivity, speed & service is concerned.. i think dataone rocks any time!about that announcements - well honestly telling i think its just a political stunt & nothin more than that!as few people already said.. even though dataone givin large speed & lil bit more room for quota.. nothin change! in fact u'll b paying much more than u r currently paying! if bsnl really wanna du somethin then why dont they giv 2mbps for 900/-rs PM plan???? & ya about infrastructure... well 1 of ma friend works for Cyber Crime! 1ce he told me that bsnl is the only asian giant who got biggest fiber optic cable!! it has several hundred TB capacity! & its underwater directly from London to India!so watto say!! these polititions sux as usual!& i hope if bsnl was some private company then it'll b more than where its currently standin! Dont u think so? Damn!Edit : 1 more fact i would like to tell u guyes..i think u people already aware of dataone account hacking! already people stealing passwords for more speed & quota! if dataone announce 2mbps for 250rs/- pm plan then i cant even imagine how much those poeple gotta suffer due to these sh!theads! I cant understand why dataone is not fixing those loop holes using which dataone accounts can easily hacked!!i mean cum on it takes only few seconds to hack an account!! & i hope dataone already aware of these things! arnt they? :(

Indian broadband Infrastructure is clearly not ready for this. There is no bandwidth to offer customers 8 times the current usage. Already news reports are that bsnldoesnt have enough ports for its existing customers. Simplying laying or acquiring one or two submarine cable will not increase the bandwidth 8 FOLD.. Seriously, this is going to be a gimmick. I agree that its a good step ahead, we will be connected to BSNL by a 2 mbps line, BUT i am not sure about us being connected to the internet at 2mbps atleast in another year. (At these prices)

May be few exchanges could be having DSLAM ( layman PORT) shortage but that doesn't count on for all.
