Just connected to a router, want to know about enabling or disabling DHCP

Guys, I've been using BSNL FFTH more than a year (600 GB CUL) and I just connected the FFTH device (GPON OP-GONT 90211VW) to my old TP-Link wifi router (WR841N). In a couple of threads and YouTube videos they say to disable the DHCP server in the wifi router and keep the DHCP enabled in the FTTH modem. I did as they said but I couldn't connect to internet, my phone just tried to connect to the SSID saying "obtaining IP address". If I enabled DHCP in both devices I can access internet without any problem. May I please know that is there any issue in enabling DHCP in both devices since I can access internet without any issues?

if you are using TP-Link as extender, DHCP on both devices will create extra NAT.

Less NAT is better.

@neonbulb Enabling DHCP on both devices creates additional NAT which may cause issues with some games and port forwarding.
If you want to disable DHCP in your router, change your router to access point mode. Then connected devices will get DHCP leases from ONT.
Or you can enable bridge mode in ONT if it supports and then configure PPPoE and DHCP on your router.

OP make sure you connect WAN from your ONT to LAN port of your TP-Link router, not to usual WAN port.
