Kerala Vision FUP125M4000G Plan Speed Issue – Need Technical Advice

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Kerala Vision broadband under the FUP125M4000G plan, which promises 125 Mbps speed. However, for the past three months, my speeds have been significantly lower:

• Download speed: ~39.2 Mbps
• Upload speed: ~60.8 Mbps
• Latency: 18 ms

This is happening even during off-peak hours. Before this period, I used to get ~100 Mbps download speeds consistently with the same setup.

Details about my setup:

• Modem: Scopus (provided by the operator).
• GPON Info:
  • Tx Power: 1.848373 dBm
  • Rx Power: -23.979400 dBm

I’ve complained multiple times to the local cable operator, but their response has been unhelpful. They insist that the 125 Mbps speed is only possible if I upgrade to a new "5G modem" (which they would charge me for). However, I suspect this issue might be due to increased connections in my neighborhood, potentially overloading the network.

I’ve already ruled out hardware issues on my side since everything worked fine before, and there have been no changes in my equipment or usage patterns.

My questions:

1. Are the GPON Tx/Rx power levels within acceptable limits for optimal performance?
2. Could the decrease in speed be due to network congestion caused by new connections in the area?
3. Is the operator’s claim about needing a "5G modem" for achieving plan speeds technically valid?
4. Any other suggestions to troubleshoot or escalate this issue effectively?

First of all you need a dual band router/ONT to achieve this plan speed

I have taken a new KV connection and I am on plan FUP225M3500G. The modem given to me was from Netlink XPON ONT, single band router.
I get about 40-70 mbps in Wi-Fi and 90mbps in LAN.

1. Don't have any information about this.

2. You can check your WI-FI channels health. In default configuration the wifi channel mode is set to auto and it was running on channel 6.

3.Yes , 5G modem is needed to achieve speeds above 100mbps. It also depends on the device SoC
(Speedtest with dimensity 700 gives 40-70mbps while speedtest with Snapdragon 6gen 1 gave 100-110 mbps) in WI-FI

4. I don't have any concrete information or sources to back this up but disabling ipv6 has given me a boost in the internet speed. Usually the speed was between 30-55 mbps before , about 20mbps boosted now. I think ipv6 routing is not stable in KV
You can check the changes for yourself by enabling only ipv4 and then on ipv6.

These observations are based on my personal experience and may differ for you.

I have taken FUP300M5000G. Connected my Net-link Single band modem in bridge mode. I was able to get full 300 Mbps in 3rd party router both Ethernet and WiFi.

Currently switched to FUP200M4500G since there is a real use for it.

I would suggest getting a good Dual band Router (WiFi 6 if pocket allows) from TP-Link and put your current one in bridge mode + disable WiFi.
