La Brea.webp

An epic adventure begins when a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people and buildings into its depths. Those who fell in find themselves in a mysterious and dangerous primeval land, where they have no choice but to band together to survive. Meanwhile, the rest of the world desperately seeks to understand what happened. In the search for answers, one family torn apart by this disaster will have to unlock the secrets of this inexplicable event to find a way back to each other.

This is a dud. And I have a feeling I have seen a show with a similar plot in the past.

Being made for NBC in the United States and scheduled to air before the end of the year, the effects-heavy production will spend around $71 million in Australia, more than $60 million of it in Victoria. It is the most expensive TV production in Victoria since Steven Spielberg’s HBO series The Pacific wrapped in 2009.

La Brea joins a growing list of shows Universal has shifted to Australia in the wake of the COVID pandemic, and in response to generous incentives from state and federal governments.

He noted that the COVID protocols in place on La Brea add about $300,000 to the cost of each episode, but would cost twice as much in the States, where testing is more frequent. Over the course of 10 episodes, that means shooting in Australia will result in a saving of $3 million.

That much money on a show that doesn't have a single positive review on IMDb.

With this name, I honestly thought this was some Spanish garbage from Netflix. Turns out it's English garbage from NBC.

And Universal wants to spend $200 mn every year to produce 3-4 shows like this. At least reserve $1 mn per show for a decent writer.
