Hi,

I am using landline provided by BSNL FTTH. I am taking cable from RJ11 port and connecting to telephone. My telephone is long distance away from modem. About 100 feet away. So I am using a long cable to connect to it.

Sometimes telephone works, sometimes not. Sometimes 2-3 days telephone works without problems, Sometimes it does not work. I have checked the cable. There is no issues with the cable. I don't have a clue why this happens..

Maybe the signal strength is not sufficient for long distance cable.

Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Thanks

Could be a lot of things. I'd start with quality of the cable (CAT3 should be fine), then check for interference. I think moving the modem closer is probably the cheapest and easiest solution here.

I suspect the cable. Why dont u change the cable and see? I have extensions to the VOIP line on the ONT running over my home and all run fine. 30/100 ft metres is not an issue at all for tel lines.

@Joyous What exactly do you mean by " Sometimes it works and sometimes not" ?
Does it go dead or is there some disturbance?
Incoming and outgoing both stop working or is it just one of them?
What happens after you reboot the modem .....does it start working?

If it works properly at least sometimes then I don't believe it would be a cable problem.
I am aware of BSNL FTTH connection having similar issues with Landline at one of my relatives' house. It was rectified once the Modem was replaced.

By the way , one suggestion: Ditch the POTS landline all together.
You can configure the Voice directly on a VoIP Phone. You may then place the phone at any distance within your LAN.
The voice quality is also much superior.

Moving the telephone closer is not an option. I am using CAT 5 cable (Only two wires in it as its telephone)

I don't know why.. Sometimes it works, when restarting the modem.. and goes off after a while.. sometimes it keeps working for few days.. Don't have a clue why it happens. So I suspect the signal strength issue.(also the dial tone is in low volume)..

Telephone works fine with short cable with POTS port. (Tested)

Thats a good option.. But will it work consistently with same settings? I have previously configured SIP with GS Wave app with another connection and it also had issues.

Anyone using it?

could it be something with the voltage to the telephone dropping because of resistance? 100feet is a significant distance

@JB701 internal telephone wiring in my house easily exceeds 100 ft. and the BSNL VOIP line works perfectly. I suspect a cable defect or a RJ45 port defect at the ONT/the telephone instrument.
