I have been using MTNL Wifi since March 2013. One problem that i have been encountering is that my Laptop and android mobile stops detecting the wifi router after 2-3 days of wifi setup. Though it detects the wifi networks of the adjoining areas but doesn't detect mine. Once i reset the wifi modem it starts detecting the modem and wifi works fine. However after 2-3 days this problem occurs again. I complained about this issue to MTNL guys who suggested that this is a common problem being faced by many customers who are using MTNL provided Binatone DSL Wifi Modem. He suggested me to buy my own wifi modem and this issue will get resolved.
I recently bought D-Link ADSL+wifi router 2750. But the problem remained as it is. Initially it got connected and after 2-3 days it stopped detecting my wifi modem. I am not able to understand why this thing is happening. The important thing to note here is that my laptop and andorid mobile detects wifi networks in the close vicinity howeven not mine. Once i reset the modem everything works fine and after 2-3 days it will stop detecting the wifi.
Please help as i am not able to find any permanent solution to this problem.

Hi socrates, thanks for your reply. No i dont have any cordless at my home. The only thing near to my wifi modem is the telephone instrument and a cooler on window. However i guess these things should not affect the connectivity as the wifi works fine for two-three days thereafter it dissappears. I have another laptop from my office which connects well with the wifi and does not have any connectivity issue at all, it is my home laptop and my android device which face this problem.

Hmm Since this happened with two different units it should be (logically) something in your local environment that is causing this problem. Just a thought, when you cannot connect via wifi can you connect thru a LAN cable connected to your modem/router? If the answer is yes then I am thinking illogically :D I wonder if there is something that is interfering with the wifi signal which comes thru the tel wire!!!!!! I say this as it happened with both units

Hi...actually i can connect it through lan cable. That's how i have been using my wifi modem over the months :playful: . Further if the interference is happening through something, it should not connect with any device. My office laptop connects without any problem. Its my laptop at home which does not detect the MTNL wifi modem. Though it detect the other wifi connections in adjoining areas.

If it was just laptop issue, I would have suggested formatting it just for the sake of it but since you say that even ur android is giving same trouble, problem is somewhere else.
Interference can be a factor but it is too much of a coincidence that even after changing your modem, wifi goes out in 2-3 days. Also since you say that you can connect through LAN after wifi drop so we can say that its not mtnl backend problem.
It can be a case as how you are configuring your wifi router. You know when you connect a device to your wifi router, your wifi router lease a local IP address to that device for some duration and it may be happening that your laptop and android device are unable to renew the local IP with wifi after the first lease expires.

Just a guess, does this has anything to do with the security type (WEP,WEP-PSK2 etc.). I am using WEP security type on my modem. If there is an issue with the renewal of local IP then can this be rectified, is there any permanent solution to it??

Ok there is a channel to use instead of auto. Change this setting to 6 or 11. I've read this avoids interference. I use these channels to connect wirelessly my three wifi routers in a chain for full house coverage.
